GPT-6 and Intelligent UI in ChatGPT: What's New, Pricing, and Who Should Use It

OpenAI began rolling out GPT-6 in ChatGPT's Chat tab on October 7, 2026, together with Intelligent UI: an answer can now be a chart, a form, or a small working tool such as a calculator, built from a plain request. The rollout started with Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise and reaches Free and Go from October 8. A start date does not mean every account has it: OpenAI's Help Center says that if GPT-6 is missing from the model menu, it may not have reached that account yet.

For a small business, the useful case is a quote calculator built in the chat. The part that needs care is checking it before it prices a real job, because the model writes the formulas and can get them wrong even when the prices are right. This article covers how to try one, how to test it, and what each plan gets. No hands-on test is included; the article works from OpenAI's announcement, release notes, help center, and pricing page.

What is new in GPT-6 in ChatGPT?

1. Answers that can be tools

OpenAI trained GPT-6 to decide, per question, whether an answer works best as text, a side-by-side comparison, a diagram, or something interactive. Its examples include a bill splitter, a savings calculator, a road trip on a map, and a game. No special prompt is needed, and plain text answers still appear when they fit.

2. Answers that start before the thinking ends

GPT-6 can begin answering while it is still thinking or using tools, then add findings without another prompt. OpenAI's figure measures when an answer starts, not when it is complete or correct: on questions that need a web search, GPT-6 Instant starts answering 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant, by OpenAI's internal measurement.

3. Where it works

Intelligent UI runs on ChatGPT on the web and in updated mobile apps. The Help Center says the older ChatGPT desktop apps for macOS and Windows do not support it and points users to the web version. On the web, Settings > Layout and visuals reduces visual elements without switching every answer to plain text.

What GPT-6 in ChatGPT changes for a small business

Build a quote calculator in the chat

Describe the pricing rules in the request the way you would explain them to a new employee: for a cleaning business, the rate per square foot, the minimum charge, the discount for weekly visits, and the extra for an oven or fridge clean. Intelligent UI can return a calculator with fields for those inputs instead of a paragraph. Free and Go users get the feature as the rollout reaches their plan.

Check it before it prices a real job

The model writes the formulas, and it can implement them wrongly even when every price in the request is right. Before using the calculator with a client, work out the expected totals by hand for a few cases that test the rules: an order below the minimum charge, an area exactly at the point where the rate changes, a weekly client with the discount, and an empty field. Then enter the same cases and compare. Past orders are a weaker test, since they may include one-off discounts, rounding, an old price list, or a deal agreed by phone. The lesson on communicating with AI in the productivity course ends on the same step: check before you use the result.

Sending a result to a client

A conversation or a single response can be shared by link, according to OpenAI's help article on sharing, and a link from a personal account is a snapshot at the moment it is created. Links created in a ChatGPT Business workspace open only for members of that workspace, so a client outside it cannot view them. The help article does not describe how interactive elements behave for the person who opens a link, and this article did not test it. Before sending one to a client, open the link in a private browser window and check that the fields and buttons work.

When a plan upgrade is worth comparing

A higher plan is worth testing when the current one falls short on your own tasks: the calculator ignores one of the stated conditions, a multi-step calculation comes out wrong, or you keep reaching your plan's limits. In that case, the Medium and High thinking levels, which start on Plus, are worth comparing on the same requests; without such a gap, the model on the plan you already have may be enough for this work.

A calculator settles the number; the message that sends it to a client is separate work. Empacer is a voice-first AI business assistant for small service business owners. You say what needs doing, review the finished work, and decide whether it goes out.

Who should try it now and who can wait

  • You price jobs by size, time, or options: try a calculator once GPT-6 appears in your model menu, and test it on cases worked out by hand.
  • Most of your quotes are custom deals: keep pricing them yourself; a calculator captures fixed rules, not one-off arrangements.
  • You work in the ChatGPT desktop app on a Mac or PC: use ChatGPT on the web to get Intelligent UI.

FAQ

Does Intelligent UI have a separate usage quota?

No, according to OpenAI's Help Center. The plan's existing model, tool, and usage allowances apply.

What happens to the model I picked before?

A "Latest" selection moves to GPT-6 at the same thinking level. An explicit GPT-5.6 Sol selection stays on GPT-5.6, and the rollout does not retire older selectable models.

Where is GPT-6 Astra now?

In Chat, the Pro thinking option runs GPT-6 Pro, powered by GPT-6 Astra, on Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans, without Intelligent UI. Plus includes Astra in ChatGPT Work and Codex.
