API

An API (application programming interface) is a defined way for one piece of software to request data or actions from another. AI companies offer APIs so developers can build their models into other products.

Also known as: APIs, application programming interface

An API sets out which requests a system accepts and what it returns. When a model is available through an API, other apps and services can send it tasks directly, without a person typing into a chat window.

For a business, API access is what lets an assistant connect to tools such as a calendar or an inbox, within the permissions you grant.
